On the 10th March 2022 ISG invited along careers/school/college staff to have a tour of the new Wynyard Super Shed which was to become the latest Amazon warehouse in the area.
Staff attended from the following educational establishments:
The staff were given a guided tour of the colossal structure and the site in full by Malcolm Peart, the ISG Project Director who initiated the site visits, tours and `Careers in Construction` talks at the site for local young people in the hope of lighting a spark of interest in going into the construction industry.
Malcolm said: “It has been a privilege and an eye opener to have done business with yourself and colleagues. It has allowed my company and myself to integrate with a number of young people in the Tees valley and showcase what can be constructed/achieved in a relatively short period of time. l hope that this little insight to a major project in Teesside has opened the eyes and offered a more individual approach to construction in general and showed that these projects, though being colossal in size are not frightening place to be. My philosophy is to show the young people that there are a multitude of skillsets in one location and these places are a safe place to be and we encourage a very high safety culture.”
Following on from the successful staff tour and talk the schools/colleges were invited to bring along groups of students to have a tour of the site and attend a `Careers in Construction` talk led by Malcolm himself.
Malcolm said, “I myself as a father and grandfather took great delight in highlighting the construction elements on the day and was delighted when individuals showed an interest and asked questions whilst on the tour and during the talk”. Malcolm was particularly impressed with the students from Abbey Hill Academy whose enthusiasm and interest was fantastic.
It is only with support and the enthusiasm of people like Malcolm and ISG that we can put on events like this which can really open up the eyes of our young people to what is available to them and the vast variety of job roles within a particular Sector.
A massive thankyou goes to Malcolm who gave up a lot of his time to support and deliver the sessions in person and the staff at ISG who supported visits for 3 mainstream schools, 2 colleges and 1 SEND academy to date with more booked in for September.
