About the activity
The Choices event would usually happen face to face but has been adapted to a virtual format. As a school and 6th form, we need to ensure compliance to the Dfe Careers guidance and access for education and training providers, to enable students and their parents’ access to all the college and training providers offers. We created a comprehensive, interactive PowerPoint presentation, containing hyperlinks to college’s promotional videos, prospectus, websites, and online application forms. This makes navigation of the systems easier and information of how to make applications.
The standardised layout shows clearly what pathways, levels and subjects are offered, so that students can make direct comparisons and shortlist providers that offer what they are considering.
This was disseminated by emailing Tutors and students and placed in the Y11 Careers Teams platform as well as on the school website to make access for both students and parents easy. Parent letters (careers programme and parents’ evenings) have also been sent with a link to this resource – click here.
Benchmark 3 – Addressing the needs of each pupil – allowing students to see all potential options and destinations in a range of career paths following on from their post 16 study.
Benchmark 7 – Encounters with further and higher education – students interact with a wide range of staff from different departments and various organisations / post 16 providers throughout the year at each lunchtime drop in.
This was a new way of working and although it has taken time to develop this resource it has been effective and can easily be shared with a wide range of audiences. It is vital that students are aware of the options available to them so they can make informed decisions about their future, We will continue to use this format moving forward alongside information and guidance with the students until we can return to face to face contact.
