CPD event delivered by Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA). for teachers on labour market information and how they can link careers to the curriculum. As Career Leader I felt it was important that teaching staff had more of an understanding of what LMI is, Tees Valley priority sectors and then how they could then link this information to their subject area.
The key steps in the implementation of this activity involved me (careers leader) working with the Raising Standard Lead and the Careers Coordinator from TVCA to arrange an appropriate time on the CPD calendar for training. We adapted delivery by running the session virtually by Microsoft Teams and as the activity was live staff had the opportunity to ask questions.
Benchmark 2 – Every pupil, and their parents or carers, should have access to good quality information about future study options and labour market opportunities. They will need the support of an informed adviser to make best use of available information.
Benchmark 4 – All teachers should link curriculum learning with careers. For example, STEM subject teachers should highlight the relevance of STEM subjects for a wide range of future career paths. Careers and enterprise education should be part of, and included in, a pupil’s standard lessons, linking curriculum to real-world career paths.
As staff are now more informed about opportunities in Tees Valley, they will be able to use the information they learnt from the CPD session and deliver this to our student to allow them to make more informed decisions. Making subjects more relatable to careers and start that conversation with students of why they are learning what they are.
We will be running this session again with an updated PowerPoint to staff towards the middle/end of the academic year, so staff are aware of any updates.
