We are excited to announce that Middlesbrough College is to host a Highways Industry Careers Day for the Tees Valley on Friday 2nd February between 9.30am – 3.00 pm.
WHAT IS IT?
The Highways Industry is an exciting and diverse industry with an array of opportunities for young people to explore with careers in; Engineering (Design Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering), Road Construction and Road Marking, Traffic Management, Innovation, Commercial, Finance, IT and Health and Safety amongst others.
This event is aimed at Year 9 up to Year 13 students to view the displays and join in with exciting activities. This will include getting up close with plant machinery, line marking, designing their own road signs and much more. Furthermore, we would love it if more young women attended the event as we are trying to address the gender imbalance within this industry. Students do not need to currently study a related subject prior to attending the event.
WHO WILL BE THERE?
There are currently 11 companies (and counting) from the strategic road network that have confirmed that they will be joining together to show the type of work they do as well as discussing career opportunities and the routes into their industry including apprenticeships and graduate courses. There will be displays and interactive demonstrations from employers such as;
Jacobs, HW Martin, Tilbury Douglas, Carnell (drainage and civils), Tarmac Paving, Concrete Repairs Ltd, WJ North, Keltbray, Premier Road Markings, Sir Robert McAlpine, National Highways with more expected to confirm.
Additionally, Middlesbrough College staff and our partners will also be on hand to discuss courses and how we can support your students to get into the career of their choice.
HOW CAN I BOOK TO ATTEND?
In recognition of the cost incurred trying to book coaches, the slots will be for a group of 15 students at a time (or one minibus) with multiple schools in attendance for each block. Visits will take place within a 90-minute window to take in the display, meet the employers and engage in the activities. Slots are on a first come first serve basis, schools may not reserve more than one time slot. Time slots available are 9.30am, 11.00am, 12.30pm, 2.00pm
We have a room available for students to eat packed lunches over the lunchtime slot.
To register for a time slot please email Lucy Lodge at schoolsteam@mbro.ac.uk
